What is BASH?

BASH is the Birmingham Ant-Street Harassment group. We’ve become aware that this is something which has been getting worse and worse lately. It’s getting to the point where women are beginning to feel uncomfortable leaving the house on their own. Worse, there seems to be a widespread feeling that nothing can be done about it, and the only thing is to keep one’s head down and try and ignore it. We say, screw that! This isn’t right, and until somebody starts doing something, it’s not going to change - which is why we’re here. If you’ve been a victim of street harassment, or know anyone who has, or just agree with us, this Blog is for you. We hope to hear from you, and share your stories, and generally raise awareness of a problem nobody else seems to be doing anything about.

This is also a place where we can provide you with information about the action we intend to be taking - coming soon, we’ll be running a letter writing campaign, and holding a public protest in the city centre. More details of these will be up when we have them, but for now, any suggestions and ideas - or even just support - are more than welcome. Together, we can let the world know that we’ve had enough of this, and we’re not going to take it any more!

How do I join?

This isn’t yet a formal organisation, so at the minute, you don’t have to do anything. But please do leave us a message on here, email us, join the facebook page, or follow us on twitter, so we know you’re out there.

What can I do to help?

For now, help share information about us. Tell your friends, try and raise awareness. Let’s get the message out there that we can do something about this if we stand up together and try. Details about more campaigns and other ways you can support us will be posted on here soon. (And we hope to get t-shirts before too long, as well!)

How do I get in touch?

Well, you can comment on here, of course. Then there are also the following ways as well:
Facebook
Twitter
Email: bashstreetharassment (at) gmail (dot) com

Please do get in touch - it’s a great help to know you’re out there!
